The Ontario government has announced an increase in the harmonized sales tax (HST) rebate for purpose-built rental housing. The enhanced rebate will provide a full rebate of the provincial portion of HST for properties in Ontario. The eligibility criteria for the rebate are similar to those for the enhanced GST rental rebate. The enhanced HST rebate will be available for eligible projects that begin construction between September 2023 and December 2030 and complete construction by December 2035. The changes to the rebate scheme include increasing the rebate from 75% to 100% of the provincial HST portion and removing the rebate cap.
